Rengar is a very "stat-check" character, but guess what beats this ? A better "stat-check" character x)It should be your main ban even tho you can always outplay him because darius players always play the same

1. Introduction
Hello everyone, and welcome to my AP Rengar guide for patch 14.11!
My name is Enzo, but you might know me better by my online alias, Azzin.
I've been a top elo player in multiple games such as World of Warcraft (enhance main) or battlerite (reached top 40 in duo with a friend). I'm a Rengar main since Season 6. Initially, I focused on playing AD/Jungle Rengar. However, since Season 9, I've transitioned to playing Rengar in the top lane, embracing the challenges and opportunities this role presents.
I now have the goal to reach League top elo using only AP rengar.
But why do i play AP rengar ?
P1Tony clip showcasing the strength of AP Rengar :
Recently, I discovered that AP Rengar is viable and can be incredibly potent, thanks to the innovative strategies shared by players like P1Tony and mArlon547.
Their insights inspired me to take on a new challenge: to climb to Master tier with AP Rengar. This journey is just beggining, if you want to see me go through it, you can check out my stream here : Azzinth
2. Pros / Cons
+AOE Damage
+Insane splitpush
+Strong laning phase
+Great snowball
+Really rewarding to play
Rengar has such a unique design, you can build almost whatever you want on this champ, it has some of the biggest skill ceiling of all game too.
-Not as usefull when behind
-Some matchups are very tricky
-Feels weaker than ad into certain comps
-Hard to learn.
Just like any other assassin, rengar AP will be pretty bad if you fall alot behind.
3. Runes
14.13 rune detail not yet updated, go Phase Rush when building full AP.Or Fleet Footwork for the offtank build
Make sure to not pick runes randomly. Always think of your matchup and which runes would make it easier.
I personnaly like to take Phase Rush against champions like Olaf, Trundle or against tanks just to make sure they can never kill me.
I might pick Second Wind and Revitalize as secondary runes to survive heavy poke lanes such as range top or champs like Pantheon.
If i feel like i need to stay high HP i'll pick either Fleet Footwork or Grasp of the Undying (for ex against Riven, Garen etc ...).
4. Items
Core items
Lich Bane is going to be your 1st item almost all games, it synergies perfectly with AP Rengar's kit, gives damage on Q, lot of AP for W, and MS to run out after you did your combo.
Sorcerer's Shoes is going to be your standard boots, as the magic pen it gives is crucial for AP Rengar kill potential, you can always switch to Ionian Boots of Lucidity if you're extra snowballing and don't need the extra damage.
Even after the nerfs Stormsurge should be your main followup item, as it also gives everything rengar needs. Magic pen, burst and more important : it gives you MS after doing your combo to get out of fights. As rengar you are kind of like a Diana, you have really good engage but nothing to get out. So the extra MS is super usefull, especially coupled with Phase Rush.
Stormsurge gives more MS than Shadowflame and same damages in early game. That's why i pick it almost everytime instead of Shadowflame, plus the ms boost of the passiv coupled with Phase Rush or Fleet Footwork just feels really good.
Shadowflame on the other hand gives more flap AP, and a nice passiv to finish off those kills. I would say it's more consistent for dmg but has no MS to it, that's why i personnaly almost never pick it.
Follow-up items
Zhonya's Hourglass is a really good item on rengar, as it gives ton of ap, a broken active that can help alot to engage teamfights without instantly dying, can tempo for a second round of W combos, and it also gives armor against enemy fed AD champs. You can switch to Banshee's Veil into heavy AP comps or champs like Janna, Poppy or Thresh than can easily deny ur jump.
Rabadon's Deathcap is part of every AP rengar build, as it just add alot of damage on your combo, you should almost always aim to get this as early as possible (after core build) because of how much damage it gives. But in practice, most games, you should better take Zhonya's Hourglass because of how much situations it can be used in compared to the usage of Rabadon's Deathcap.
Void Staffis pretty similar to Rabadon's Deathcap in a way, as it is only a damage multiplier, just consider enemy team building path to choose which one you take first, i'll suggest going Void Staff when enemy starts to build even a bit of MR, and just go straight on Rabadon's Deathcap if they don't.
Build paths (follow-up items) :
#1ST OPTION:
-> ->
If the game is going even or bad you should opt for this build path, as the extra AP won't change much your situation, but the stasis given by Zhonya's Hourglass can. Just choose between Void Staff and Rabadon's Deathcap 5th and 6th depending on enemy team MR amount.
#2ND OPTION:
-> ->
If the game is going really good and enemy don't have a fed carry that can threaten you (like a fed Zed or something like this). Then this is the build path you should be taking, again this is raw damage but 0 utility, so make sure to jump only when it's safe, because you won't have anything to save your ass until you complete Zhonya's Hourglass. Outside of that this is the most damage you can get out of AP Rengar.

6. Combo's
AP Rengar Combos
0 Stack Combo
Q before leap > E mid air > W-W
This is a basic combo to use when you have no ferocity stacks. Start with Q before leaping, then use E mid-air, and follow up with W-W on landing to maximize damage and healing.
4 Stack Combo
Q before leap > E mid air > Q + W on landing > Emp W
With 4 ferocity stacks, this combo maximizes your burst. Start with Q before leaping, use E mid-air, and follow up with Q and W on landing, finishing with Empowered W for a massive burst of damage and healing.
Empowered Q All-In Combo (early levels (1-5))
Emp Q in bush > leap > E > Q + W > AA > Q
For an all-in, start with Empowered Q in a bush, then leap onto your target. Use E, follow up with Q and W, auto-attack, and finish with another Q for maximum damage output. This is your highest damage combo for the first levels in lane.
General Tips
Before level 7 and when you don't have a lot of AP, it's better to use Empowered Q if you're aiming for an all-in. For smaller trades, use the basic 0 stack combo mentioned above. Adjust your combos based on your ferocity stacks and the situation to maximize your effectiveness in fights.
7. Playstyle & Tips
General Playstyle & Tips
Early Game
In the early game, play AP Rengar similarly to AD Rengar. Prioritize using Empowered Q for damage. Your primary goal should be to farm and look for opportunities to engage with empowered Q to maximize your early damage output.
After First Recalls
After your first recalls, you will have some points in W and some AP. Use the Q>E>W>W combo and then disengage. Poke the enemy like this until they are low enough for you to press R and secure the kill.
Mid Game
During the mid game, focus on split pushing. There are two main strategies:
1. If the enemy in the side lane is killable, eliminate them and then push the lane.
2. If the enemy is not easily killable, push the lane and then look to rotate and catch someone off guard, creating a numbers advantage for your team.
Late Game
In the late game, try to catch an isolated enemy. In large team fights, focus on isolating and bursting or CCing the enemy carries. If none of these options are viable, perform your combo on as many enemies as possible in a kamikaze style to maximize your impact.
Differences in Playstyle According to Builds
Full AP Rengar focuses on bursting down enemy carries and split pushing towers. Engage in fights using Zhonya's Hourglass to survive after your initial burst.
Offtank Rengar excels at outplaying enemies with Empowered W spams, being annoying, buying time for your team, and absorbing pressure. This build allows you to sustain longer in fights and be a persistent threat.
