Beth Anne Hill (Myer) went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 17, 2024. She was surrounded by her husband, daughters, parents, and sisters while she peacefully passed away at home after a long hospitalization.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut St, Ankeny, IA 50023. There will be a time of food and fellowship following the service at the church. There will be a private family inurnment of ashes at Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa at a later date.

Beth was born on April 6, 1961, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. She was the first daughter of Dr. Philip and Janet Myer. The Myer family ultimately made their home in Manning, Iowa, after moving to Washington State and West Des Moines. Beth graduated from the MHS class of 1979. She met the love of her life, Michael Gene Hill, while attending school in Manning. They began dating following their senior year, becoming inseparable following their first date. Together they raised two daughters, Laura and Jessica. Beth and her husband Mike moved to Ankeny, Iowa last year to be closer to family.

Beth spent most of her life serving others. As a teen she began working in her hometown hospital. She went to nursing school and worked as an RN for several years, eventually becoming DON at the Manning Hospital. At the age of 37 Beth was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite this, she did a beautiful job of raising her two daughters, helped manage an MS support group, worked long hours at the Manning Hospital, and eventually pursued her dream of becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from UNMC and worked for the VA for 10 years, helping veterans manage their mental health needs. She truly enjoyed working with her patients there, and made many friends through work, many of whom she kept in contact with following her retirement.

Although Beth thoroughly enjoyed her career in nursing, she enjoyed her time with family more than anything else. Beth, Mike and their two daughters built a beautiful life together on their farm in Manning. Beth was the biggest cheerleader in her daughter’s lives, attending most any dance, band, 4-H and sporting event, and always inspired her girls to dream big. As the years went on, the family always found ways to enjoy new experiences together, and one of Beth’s favorite things was taking family vacations to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Beth loved nothing more than getting to know her four grandchildren, affectionately referred to as “Granny Bath.” Beth was also very creative and an excellent cook.

Despite her positive attitude, the physical effects of MS continued to gradually build and Beth saw a decline in her mobility. Beth never gave up traveling, spending time with her family, and spoiling her grandchildren. Most importantly, Beth’s kindness never waivered despite the adversity she faced with her chronic health conditions, an example to all of what a truly wonderful person Beth was.

Beth was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Wilbur Hill; mother-in-law, Wynona Hill; brother-in-law, Ron Hill; brother-in-law Lenny Carstens; and brother-in-law Nicholas Drees. Beth is survived by her husband, Michael Hill; parents, Dr. Philip and Janet Myer; daughter Laura and husband Dr. Jonathan Howe with children Lucas and Brooklyn; her daughter Jessica and husband Ryan Sones with children Hayden and Addison; sisters Edith Drees and family, Dr. Barbara Hodne and family, Jean and her husband Scott Schwiesow and family; sister-in-law Sheryl Carstens and family; and many friends.

Beth will always be known for having the kindest heart, a truly beautiful soul who welcomed all. She will be sorely missed but she leaves a wonderful legacy to those she leaves behind. Beth’s favorite color was purple, and the family kindly asks that those who attend services wear something purple in remembrance of Beth if possible.

In loving memory of Beth, memorials may be directed to the family.
