He was a graduate of Southside High School in Greenville, North Geenville Junior College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina. A former Richland County deputy sheriff, he was Vice President of Construction for Kahn Development Company, most recently overseeing the development and construction of The Village at Sandhill. Mr. Coln's family and friends were most important to him. Affectionately known as "Bruce Almighty" and "Big he enjoyed golf and was an avid Gameco*ck football fan.

He was a member of The Woodlands Country Club and Travinia's Wine Club. www.dunbarfunerals.com Thomas G. Firth COLUMBIA Mr. Thomas G. 72, of Columbia, died Friday, July 13, 2007, at home surrounded by his family, after a valiant 8-month battle against cancer. Born in Darby, PA, on April 23, 1935, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Dorothy Harmer Firth.

He retired to Columbia, in 1991, after living abroad as an executive for RJ Reynolds. He proudly served his country for 20 years in the United States Marine Corps, from which he retired in 1973. He was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Mr. Firth is survived by his wife, Estelle Firth; daughters, Kim Horner and Donna Reynolds; sons-in-law, John Horner and George Reynolds; and grandchildren, Thomas and Samuel Horner, and James and Elizabeth Shaw.

Marjorie Mixson Hiers HAMPTON Mrs. Marjorie Mixson Hiers, 90, of 3130 Bamberg Highway near Hampton, and the widow of John Adam Hiers, died Saturday morning at her residence after an extended illness. Born Nov. 1, 1916, in Cummings, she was the daughter of the Robert Mixson and Alma Lane Mixson. Mrs.

Hiers was a homemaker, was a member of the Seed and Weed Garden Club in Hampton and the Hampton County Home Demonstration Club. She was a devoted member and elder of the Harmony Presbyterian Church as well as being a past president of the Women of the Church. She is survived by two sons, John A. Hiers, Ill and wife, Libby, of Hampton and James A. "Jimmy" Hiers and wife, Carolyn, of Walterboro; one daughter, Margie H.

Smith and husband, Terrell, of Varnville; one brother, William Mixon of Yemassee; four sisters, Nell Corder of Kingstree, Werrion Ilderton of Savannah, Mary Lou Willard of Beaufort Sara Cathers of Lexington, KY; and one sister-in-law, Annie Laurie Mixon of Beaufort. Owen Riley Hightower PROSPERITY Owen Riley High- tower, 56, of Prosperity passed away on Friday, July 13, 2007, at home surrounded by his family. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of Charles L. and Thelma Owen Hightower. Mr. Hightower graduated from Eau Claire High School where he excelled in basketball and music.

He retired from Bell South after 28 years of service. He was formerly employed with SLED as an Information Resource Consultant and most recently as Network Administrator with the S.C. State Library. He served in the Israeli Army from 1981 until 1984 and thereafter in the reserve. Mr. Lewsky was a member of The Learning Shul and Beth Shalom Synagogue.

A devoted and loving husband, father, son and grandson, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. She was a very active and faithful member of Harmony Church and was retired from McDuffie Furniture after 60 years of service. Mrs. Maysey, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on July 12, 2007, at her home in West Columbia. Born June 21, 1936, in Wickliffe, KY, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Dorthy Raynor Whitis. She married Edgar Maysey, on August 3, 1952, in Mississippi. Mrs.

Maysey retired from the South Carolina Department of Revenue in 1998. Miller died Saturday, July 14, 2007. Born in Florence, she was a daughter of the late William Angus Fetner and Gertrude Koopman Fetner. She graduated from Florence High School in 1938 a and Florence Business College in 1939. She was employed by the University of South Carolina for 20 years, retiring in 1984. She was a volunteer with Providence Hospital and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Miller had been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church since 1966 where she was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, participated in Live Wire, and member of the Martha Circle and various other committees. Surviving are her son, William T. "Buddy" Bateman and his wife, Ellen, of Columbia; daughters, Candace Brunell and her husband, Roger, of Conyers, and Rebecca Kirby and her husband, Charles, of Irmo, S.C.; grandchildren, Ron Barron of Conyers, Crystal Maddox and her husband, Chris, of Loganville, Katherine Kirby of Columbia and James Bateman of Columbia. She was predeceased by brother and sisters, William Angus Fetner Mary Fetner McPherson and Elizabeth Fetner Brown.

Ken entered his eternal rest on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, less than a month shy of his 46th birthday. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Loretta Ann Baldwin Reep and the late Ray Reep. Ken grew up in Columbia, SC, and began working in commercial construction at a young age. He worked in this field for over 20 years and when construction work was not available, held various other jobs. At the time of his death, he was employed by Peterson Industries.

He was a graduate of Keenan High School, Columbia, SC, where he played trumpet in the band. Ken loved being active and played baseball when he was growing up. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. On weekends he enjoyed taking his dog, Stevie, on long walks. Ken loved being around people, especially when they were swapping fishing and hunting stories.

Ken married Patricia Buckner in 2003 and moved to Smith Center, KS, when Patricia became the new pastor of American Lutheran Church. Highway 391, Prosperity, SC died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his residence. Mr. Reuter was born on July 22, 1933 in Lone Rock, WI, a. son of the late Henry E. and Geraldine Miller Reuter.

He was a twenty year veteran of the U.S. Army serving both in the Korean War and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. In 1973 he founded G.M. Reuter Trucking Co. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 133 in Ridge Spring, SC, and a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 6740 in Leesville, SC.

Mr. Reuter is survived by his wife, Miriam Derrick Reuter of Prosperity; three daughters, Connie Hartley of Prosperity, Phyllis M. (Aven) Martin of Leesville, and Susan (Allen) Hanco*ck of Newberry; two sons, Marion G. (Marsha) Reuter and so Bruce H. (Iris) Reuter, all of Prosperity; three sisters, Marjorie (Ray) Lease of Barnville, WI, Shirley Schmid of Waunakee, WI, and Rosemary Herndon of Baraboo, WI; 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Reuter and a brother, Edwin H. Reuter. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lowry Drennen and Pastor Roger Phillips. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family will be at the residence, 3741 SC Highway 391, Prosperity. The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to Dr. Chris Marshall and Dr. Chaudhry Mushtag and Hospice Care of Tri County.
